On The Desk: Seasonal Favorites, Must-Reads, Watch, and Lifestyle Inspirations

Every season brings fresh energy and new interests that shape how we live, work, and unwind. This time, I’m sharing a curated collection of favorites that have caught my attention recently. From books that offer fresh perspectives to shows that entertain and inspire, plus lifestyle tips and planner ideas that spark creativity, this post is a window into what’s been standing out on my desk this season.

Books Books Books

Reading has a way of opening doors to new worlds and ideas.

  • “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt: Not 100% done with this but I can see why it's on so many people's favorites lists. This novel exudes the essence of academia during a Vermont fall. It's all about the atmosphere and mood, and it succeeds beautifully at capturing you in that world. The writing is captivating, akin to watching a TV series unfold in your mind with every sentence.

  • Up Next on my TBR: Anna Karenina has been sitting on my shelf for years, and its over 900 pages make it quite intimidating. However, after watching and thoroughly enjoying the Keira Knightley adaptation, I'm convinced the book must be even better. Want to read it with me? 📓

What I Watched

Sometimes, a good show can be just the right way to relax and recharge.

  • Rewatch of Stranger Things to prep for Season 5 coming out at the end of the month!

  • Frankenstein: The latest adaptation by Guillermo del Toro on Netflix was excellent. Although I haven't read the book, I'm now very interested in doing so. The lavish settings and the message about humanity kept me captivated until the end. Worth a watch for sure.

  • The New Look (Apple TV+): Fashion, war, and artistry intertwined — perfect for visual thinkers.

  • Nostalgia (YouTube): I recently came across this channel and immediately stopped what I was doing to give it my attention. A slower, filmic take on interiors, emotion, and memory.

Planner and Lifestyle Thoughts

Keeping life organized while staying inspired can be a challenge. Here are some ideas and tools that have helped me:

  • Moodboard + Color Palette Themes: I find myself drawn to an olive green, espresso brown, and burgundy color palette. I'm also enjoying cohesive themes using ephemera. Recently, I've put together some spreads in my TN-style planner using 90s music memorabilia such as CDs and tapes. I'm also really enjoying a more relaxed, casual look with hand-drawn arrows and circles throughout.

  • I'm thinking of buying brown and burgundy pens to write with instead of the usual black. This pack looks enticing.

  • Grimoire or Spellbook Journals: Turn your blank notebooks into your own personal Grimoire. Perfect for a little witchy manifestation.🪄

Things That Caught My Attention & Thoughts

Beyond books and shows, some items and ideas have sparked my interest this season:

  • Digital Detox: My screen time was getting so bad. I was actually shocked when I looked at it. So...I recently added a widget to my phone so I can see, front and centre, how much time I'm spending on my phone. What do you do to control your screen habit?

  • Doilies: I'm seeing the chicest people on my FYP and Explore pages using vintage doilies and crocheted pieces to add a romantic touch to their coffee table styling or even to their beauty routines by arranging their products at night. It's so adorable! I suppose it's time for me to iron the ones my great-grandmother hand-embroidered and put them on display!

  • Getting back into the habit of having fun and exploring hobbies. Drawing, painting, crochet or knitting. Have you considered taking up a childhood hobby again just for fun?

  • The woman I aspire to be is endlessly curious. What about you?

  • Two design concepts I'm exploring -“lived-in formality” and “modern nostalgia” Think collected and curated spaces with intention and function.

  • This fall, I want to sit and read and write at more cafes.

  • This playlist comes out each autumn and I fall back in love with it every single time. 🎶🍂
